Messonghi is a small and
uncomplicated Corfu resort that stretches along the coast parallel to a long
sandy beach. The appeal of Messonghi is its quiet
simplicity, where couples and families alike can relax
by the warm water of the Ionian Sea and enjoy the
friendly atmosphere of this fairly unspoilt former
fishing village. Messonghi beach slopes gently into the sea
and the water is clean and safe for swimming. There are
facilities available to try out a variety of different
water sports, although stretching out on the sand and
enjoying the sunshine is the most popular pastime. There
is a modest nightlife around Messonghi with a handful of
bars and tavernas but the neighbouring resort of
Moraitika, a short walk from Messonghi, has a better
choice of bars, discos and clubs. Moraitika is also a
nice place to wander during the day to see the older
parts of the village, where the houses decked with
flowers are squeezed into charming narrow lanes.
Messonghi is about 14 miles from the airport and the
capital Corfu town, where you will find an even greater selection of
shops and bars and an interesting mix of old and new
buildings.
