Corfu Travel Guide

The Majestic island of Corfu Greece boasts natural beauty blanketed with lush emerald green vegetation. Mountains with steep cliffs fringe spans of golden sandy beaches, secluded coves and pebbly shorelines leading to crystal clear waters. It's really not surprising holidaymakers return year after year to Corfu as there is something to entice everyone. The island's colourful past is displayed in a number of historical monuments, fine examples of architecture and many museums.
Sporting facilities include a wide range of watersports, an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts and a cricket ground. Most resorts offer an exciting range of nightlife with an array of discos, bars, snackbars and tavernas, whilst the tiny fishing villages provide a complete contrast. An excellent choice of sightseeing trips give you every opportunity to explore this wonderful island aptly referred to as the Emerald Island.

Corfu Highlights

The Archaeological Museum - Even if youre not a devotee of ancient history or museums, you should take an hour to visit this small museum. The museum contains a wealth of archaeological finds from Corfu, including many from the Temple of Artemis in Corcyra (the ancient capital) on the peninsula south of modern Corfu Town. From the Temple of Artemis is the attic (pediment) that has a well-preserved Archaic sculpture of Medusa and from the Tomb of Menekrates a funerary statue of a crouching lion
The museum of Asian Art- in Corfu town - The centre piece of the museum is the collection of Chinese porcelains, bronzes, and other works from the Shang Dynasty (1500 B.C.) to the Ching Dynasty (19th c.). There are also strong holdings of Japanese works - woodblock prints, ceramics, sculpture, water colours, and netsuke (carved sash fasteners). You may not have come to Greece to appreciate Asian art, but this is one of several unexpected delights in Corfu.
Achillion Palace in Gastouri - The site of the summer palace of the Empress Elizabeth of Austria and the last Kaiser. This palace was built in 1892, at a beautiful spot on top of a mountain overlooking the sea on one side, and the mountains on the other side. There is a small museum in the building which has relics and ordinary objects from the empress collection and portraits her and her time on Corfu. It's a lovely daytrip because the views are excellent and the building is a very impressive classical style monument with a breathtaking garden.
Pelekas - A lovely village set on a hill, whose summit is the best place from which to watch the sun go down. Pelekas has something for everyone. Whether you are looking for sandy beaches and tavernas fringed by timeless olive groves, water-sports and nightlife; traditional food and drink; you will always find a warm welcome in Pelekas

Corfu Resorts & Beaches

Kavos Resort - Kavos is the most southern holiday resort on the island approximately forty six km from Corfu town. By local standards this may sound remote but wait until you get there. You will be greeted by over one hundred bars, many restaurants and not forgetting the Kavos discos. Over the years this resort has become the liveliest place in Corfu and definitely the place to be for young people or the young at heart, who want to party until dawn.
Sidari Resort - Swim the Canal D'Amor at Sidari and the legend promises that you will find  'the love of your life'. And if that is not enough to tempt you to this part of the world, the superb sandy beach and a good range of water sports most certainly will. Sidari has no shortage of places to eat at reasonable prices, shops and supermarkets to cater for all your needs and a good choice of bars. Sidari is still very much a typically Greek resort where families enjoy seeing the kids playing on the beach on the vast expanses of sand.
Kassiopi Resort - Once a quiet fishing village Kassiopi has developed into a lively, bustling resort that still manages to retain its original charm and friendly atmosphere. A number of pebbly coves can be reached by paths across the headland and a large shingle bay offers a choice of water sports. Clustered with cafes, bars, restaurants and tavernas, the pretty fishing harbour is the ideal place to have dinner before sampling the lively nightlife on offer.
Paleokastritsa - This resort is famous for its breathtaking beauty and magnificent scenery. Paleocastritsa is the type of place where you will quickly make friends with locals and be drawn back to its beauty and charm again and again. Retaining a fairly laid back atmosphere this is the perfect retreat for families and anyone wishing to escape the bustle of every day life, although the resort does get rather busy with 'day trips' wanting to capture the beautiful views such as those from the "Bella Vista" 0n film.
