Messonghi is a relatively unspoilt, small and uncomplicated resort running parallel to the sea for about a mile, and separated from its close neighbour Moraitika by the Messonghi River. The former fishing village of Messonghi is on the south-east coast of Corfu, 14 miles south of the capital, Corfu town and the airport.
Messonghi resort tend to appeal to a cosmopolitan mix of young families and couples looking for a relaxed holiday base with a friendly atmosphere. Corfu holidays can also count on the attractions of Moraitika across the river, as the two resorts are tending to merge.

Holidays in Messonghi, Corfu Greece, are centred around the long sandy beach found on a sweeping bay with a headland at the southern end, all on a coastal plain backed by olive grove covered hills. Messonghi beach is away from the traffic of the main road and is well organized, with shallow areas safe for children and plenty of water sport activities on offer. Nightlife consists of a modest selection of bars and tavernas, with the option of Moraitika across the river for a livelier alternative. Shopping likewise. Messonghi could include trips to nearby traditional Corfu villages like chlomatiana and picturesque Agios Dimitrios where you will find fine views.

Other east coast resorts are accessed by buses on the main coast road. Other popular Messonghi excursion options are a bus or boat trip to the fascinating Venetian capital, Corfu town, and the Aqualand waterpark, very popular with children. And remember, a holiday in Messonghi is also effectively a holiday in the sister resort of Moraitika, which offers far more in the way of bars, clubs and discos and is easily walkable from Messonghi. Take time to visit the original village of Ano Moraitika, a contrast from the main resort with its narrow lanes and picturesque unspoilt little flower-decked houses.

Messonghi is more suited to families, couples & anyone not wanting to be situated in a crowded, noisy resort. Although it is a lively resort, with a few bars & clubs open to the small hours, you have a choice, it's easy to find a quiet taverna or bar & have a very relaxing evening. There are many supermarkets, souvenir shops, Car Rental motorcycle-hire, exchange bureaus & take-away food shops to suit all types of visitor. Messonghi people are warm & friendly & will really make you feel welcome. Even in high season, the beach does not get overcrowded there is plenty of room for everyone. Sun loungers, wind-breakers & umbrellas are available for hire, but there is also plenty of spacious sand, where you can just lay down your beach towel. All in all, Messonghi is the ideal location for an enjoyable holiday, being close to Corfu town & other Corfu resorts, but, without the hustle & bustle |
The location of Messonghi means it is an ideal base for exploring to the east and west of Corfu isle and also to the south and north. The area is well serviced with public transport with a public service bus operating from early in the morning to late into the evening on a hourly basis. At the Corfu airport, a taxi rank is situated immediately outside the arrivals gate, which always has taxis at hand whenever a flight has arrived. Best time to visit Messonghi is in summer. The season extends from Easter to October when the temp range from 25-40 degrees |
